Orally Fixated

From pitchfork.com:

Is that a picture of Irish dance-pop ice-queen Róisín Murphy? It's not her Slutty Betty Draper Halloween costume. It's the cover of the former Moloko singer's forthcoming single "Orally Fixated", which we're guessing isn't about her compulsive need to brush her teeth seven times a day.

In the UK, "Orally Fixated" will drop November 16 via AWAL. In the U.S., it'll be out a day later. You'll be able to cop it from iTunes, and The Guardian will offer a free download for 48 hours. It will also be streaming via Murphy's Facebook and MySpace pages.

At the moment, Murphy is nine months pregnant, but she's still working on new music. That's dedication! She's got three new singles on the way, due next year.

So when do we hear it?

Love the picture, but the text looks kinda cheap. They could've used a different font than the one from Overpowered. Still, it isn't bad at all!

cover looks cheap. due to the fonts, although it's a nice font. it just doesn't look good like that.

Let's hope it will look better in a box :) It (almost) always does :)

I wish she kept the round sticker kind of thing instead of that kind of cheap overlay font.

Unfortunately it doesn't fit the song. But it doesn't matter. We have a new song! Woohoo! :D

For me, this looks sexy first of all and in classic style.
Good job!
I tell you more later, when I hear the song:)

the track is fun and all but i think it is TOO much as far as the music is concerned.......too many tunes going on and at the end i felt a bit confused.....let's wait for the whole album

I love her phrasing, the funk in her timing...

I love the chorus!

I'll have to digest it in better quality do, to get a deeper sound impression.

but I like it!

lyrics: (?)

eat me eat me eat me....
round round round....
drink me drink me....

don't take my lollipop
you don't know how to line 'em up
my baby's never satisfied
he always wants what I've got
he don't know when it's time to stop
my baby's never been deprived

eat us out of house and home
I shoulda known
i shoulda seen it in his eyes
why can't you take a time out
why don't you ever shut your mouth
i just can't stand to see you cry

when the last time we spoke
and now you want more
you are a very hungry guy

(chorus):

baby, you're orally fixated
you've got to give your mouth a rest
so greedy, i wish u coulda waited
but you just have (love?) to stuff your face

what you see is what you get
cuz I ain't got nothin yet
at least not for a greedy little boy
it's what you came to expect
and I need time to reflect
ain't you heard that sometimes less is more
my cupboard is bare
you're already there
and i see thru your dirty little ploy

im not gonna (??) fill u up
never never ever gonna fill your cup
you can't have your cake and eat it too
you never feel full
and frankly it's dull
because it's always about you

(chorus x2)

RE: Rapidshare Disrespect...

It's going to be given away for free @ The Guardian, so hush. It's the best way to spread the word about her work. It's not like they're posting whole albums or tracks that are commercially available; that is disrespect. ;)

Michel said...

@anonymous, I totally agree.

But it's dangerous to offer preview on Myspace or Facebook, because it's so easy to download it.
All right, I must confess, I've download the song, but I will buy it as soon as the physical release will be available. And if you do the same, at least, don't put it on Rapidshare.

Anonymous said...

No, I don't think I will hush.

Well, I suppose the Guardian is giving another track for free, like Modern Timing for the Overpowered album, remember? A track unavailable on other kind of formats.
I admit that I stole the track from FB for my iPod, but I wouldn't dare to put it online or share it in anyway.

And I already spread the word that the new single will be FOR SALE on the 16th of november.

Sorry for my odd english.

Yes, it is risky to post tracks on MS or FB, but I'm sure her management knows this, that is why they have posted this track. Be honest, it's not her best work, but it tides us over until the good stuff is released. And I agree, of course, that we shouldn't post commercially available stuff. If folks continue to 'share', then we're less likely to hear more Ms. Murphy. BTW, I read that the album won't be out until after the new year, I was hoping for something sooner. Hopefully they'll have a x-mas surprise for us. ;)

This is more of a buzz single anyway. I don't think this will be a full-scale release.

and of course, thanks for the lyrics!!!

Is total fixated - have heard the song again and again and oomg this is f...ing hot, feels like Tortuga; it makes me jump and dance
(-and yes Betty, the sound in the video was from this song):)

I think Roisin in this amazing and beautiful cover shows us what this “greedy little boy” got – that he just left, still hungry but she don’t want him to; eat me eat me eat me… (ah excuse me my poor English it’s difficult to find the right words) whatever, I love this picture

eek, im not sure about that photo and the fonts/stroke. anyway the song is fantastic. it's different and a bit strange. when i want to play it again straight after listening to it the first time it's a good sign though.

Lee B. said...

Hmm, I like the general style of it but I think there's bit too much being thrown around with the kitchen sink...

I don't like how the chorus sounds, her vocals seem to be too high in the mix or it might just be the quality of the MySpace stream. The same goes for the guitar solo, I would love that part if it didn't sound so tinny!

I love the messed up "eat me" bits though :)

It really does sound like a free download or maybe a b-side at a push; hope we don't get it on an album in the future unless it gets a different mix that improves the sound of the chorus and guitar solo.

PS.
I don't mind the cover, it is only for a digital file after all. The worse thing about it is the lack of capitalisation for "Orally Fixated".

Beautiful song, definitely future pop! Oh but the cover text... image is great, text horrible.

I've cloned out the text...

Oh Roisin, I perfectly understand that you are not a "single" and I never said, that I want you to be my wife or something...

...I just love your music and of course you too in some way (in artist way)...this is bad?

You wanted to know what we think about this new song, so this is my interpretation :)
Sincerely and truthfully.

Aha, big thanks for Michel for "link to the photo gallery"!

Someone from Poland said...

Great second picture with cigarette and this one on the floor.

Michael Bojkowski said...

Please don't say that's the cover. It's freakin awful. Roisin deserves much much better.

Someone from Poland said...

Maybe my imagination, but only this comed to my in my reflections about this new song:)
But you have right, sometimes less is more...

What a song, seriously gives to thinking...

Thanks
